About

This site is a project of the Economics, History, and Political Science Department at Fitchburg State University.

The project began in Spring 2021 and Fall 2021 as a class assignment in Katherine Jewell's HIST 1500 (US 1877-present) online courses, which gave students the option to submit photographs from the pandemic and interpret them using historical skills and thinking. This initiative expanded to a Google Form to collect photographs, documents, and texts from the campus community.

In Spring 2022, students in the Honors Seminar in History, in conjunction with the Student Government Association, expanded collection using the Google form, and the students in the class conducted 36 oral histories, also archived here. They are working on an interpretive exhibit and podcast series from these products to begin telling the community's story.
